Object storage

Storage is an S3-compatible service. It is not billed. An account can store 1 GB, send 5 GB out in a month, and make 20,000 requests in a month. Past those limits, uploads and downloads stop. Nothing is charged on top.

Create a bucket and a key in Storage. Point the AWS CLI at the endpoint with path-style addressing and region us-east-1. Uploads from the site go through asuna.in, so they stop at the size that host accepts. The CLI sends up to 32 MB straight to the endpoint on port 8080.

Bytes are encrypted on the server before a phone stores them. The phone holds ciphertext. A copy is sent to a fault-domain host when one is online. If the availability domain is full, the write is refused. It is not placed on the fault domain instead.

An object can be 32 MB. A deleted object still counts toward the stored allowance and can be restored for 7 days, then the bytes are removed. Versioning keeps older copies until you turn it off. Five keys and 20 buckets are the account limit. More than 20 requests a second returns SlowDown.
